Subject: Information on the New Learning Management System
To all faculty and staff:
As many of you know, Blackboard Learn will be replacing CLEW as the University’s learning management system (LMS). I am writing today to introduce you to the transition team and to let you know about the Web resources they have developed so that campus community members can find out more about the system and the implementation plan.
Blackboard Learn will significantly enhance our capacity to offer engaging, high-quality online and blended learning and teaching. It provides flexible tools for instructors pursuing new pedagogical approaches both on and off campus, and addresses many of the issues identified by users of the current system. The system’s many new tools are described on the University’s Blackboard Learn website, http://www.uwindsor.ca/bbproject. This site also includes information for instructors and students, FAQs and other news related to the project.
There are a lot of clear benefits to adopting Blackboard Learn, but changing a system as complex and important as the LMS is a major undertaking and will inevitably involve extra effort for instructors and staff. Those involved in the implementation process are working hard to make the transition as smooth as possible, and to provide the necessary support for everyone involved. The project involves many people, but in particular, three teams: the LMS team, the LMS Advisory Committee, and the LMS Steering Committee. Please visit the website if you would like to find out more about Blackboard Learn, or about the mandates and membership of these committees. If you have specific questions about how Blackboard Learn might work in your courses, email: email@example.com.
A small number of classes will be migrated to the system for the inter-session and summer semesters this year, with gradual roll-out to other courses in the semesters to follow. You can see an estimated implementation timeline for the project here. Updates on this plan and more information about what this change will mean for instructors and students will become available in the days ahead. I hope you will take this opportunity to explore the possibilities of this new system now, and make the most of its possibilities when it becomes more widely available. Thanks very much for your ongoing commitment to teaching and learning.
